Barcelona’s golden generation continues to produce historic moments on the biggest stages, with one of their brightest stars once again proving why he is viewed as a special talent.
The Catalan club have watched Lamine Yamal develop from an academy prospect into one of world football’s most exciting young attackers.
After already making history at club level, the teenager has now added another remarkable achievement to his growing list of milestones.
Lamine Yamal became only the second player aged 18 or younger to score the opening goal of a World Cup match after finding the net for Spain against Saudi Arabia.
The Barcelona forward struck in the 10th minute during Spain’s 2026 World Cup clash, scoring at just 18 years and 343 days old.
His achievement placed him alongside Brazil legend Pele, who previously reached the same milestone when he scored for Brazil against Wales at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden as a 17-year-old.
The goal marked a dream tournament debut for Yamal, who had been limited in Spain’s opening match after recovering from a hamstring injury suffered in April.
Following Spain’s disappointing draw with Cape Verde, manager Luis de la Fuente decided to change his lineup and brought Yamal into the starting XI on the right side of the attack.
The decision quickly paid off as the teenager made an immediate impact.
Spain’s opener came from a rapid attacking move after Saudi Arabia’s goal kick, with the ball eventually finding Mikel Oyarzabal on the left side of the box.
Oyarzabal delivered a low cross across the area, and Yamal timed his run perfectly before sliding in to meet the pass.
The youngster managed to squeeze the finish past goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais through a narrow opening, securing his first ever World Cup goal on his first appearance at the competition.
For Barcelona, Yamal’s rise continues to represent the club’s commitment to developing elite young talent, with the winger now creating memories on football’s biggest stage.
