A €16 million Spanish defender is closing in on a move to FC Barcelona, with the deal now reaching an advanced stage.
The Racing Santander defender has impressed scouts across Europe with his aggressive defending, pace, and ability to contribute to the attack, making him one of the most sought-after young defenders in Spanish football.
With doubts over Alejandro Balde’s future at Camp Nou, Barcelona sees this young talent as a potential long-term reinforcement for the left-back position.
In a major development, €16 million Spanish defender Jorge Salinas is closing in on a Barcelona move, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.
The 19-year-old left-back has featured in 34 matches for Racing Santander this season across La Liga 2 and the Copa del Rey, starting 31 of them.
His performances throughout the campaign have strengthened his standing among Europe’s leading scouts, and Barcelona has produced highly favourable scouting reports on the young defender.
However, Barcelona are not alone in tracking Salinas’ development.
Atletico Madrid is also following him closely, while reigning European champions PSG are also keen on securing his signature.
Moreover, clubs from both the Premier League and Bundesliga have shown strong interest, including Bayer Leverkusen, Newcastle United, Porto, and Bologna.
Salinas is under contract with Racing Santander until 2029, meaning Barcelona would need to negotiate a transfer rather than activate a simple release clause.
His original release clause stood at €4 million, but Racing president Manolo Higuera has confirmed that it has since increased to approximately €16 million.
One factor that could work in Barça’s favour is the involvement of agent Jorge Mendes, who represents the player and maintains a strong relationship with the Catalan club.
Despite the intense competition, Barcelona remains confident they can secure Salinas’ services, potentially signing him and loaning him back to Racing Santander for another season as he continues his development in La Liga.
