Attention has often centred on attacking reinforcements in recent windows at Barcelona, but there is also growing expectation that some midfield exits could be part of the equation this time around.
Squad depth, competition for minutes, and financial considerations are all playing a role in shaping those decisions.
And one La Masia graduate is now increasingly at the centre of that discussion.
Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado has emerged as a potential name to watch in the upcoming transfer window, with his future at the club now far from certain.
The 21-year-old, who came through the ranks at La Masia, has struggled for consistent involvement under Hansi Flick this season, limiting his ability to establish himself as a regular option in midfield.
As a result, internal discussions at the club have increasingly placed him among the group of players who could be moved on this summer, particularly as Barcelona look to create space in the squad and improve financial flexibility.
Interest from Spain has now resurfaced in a significant way.
Atletico Madrid are understood to have reignited their pursuit of Marc Casado, with club president Enrique Cerezo reportedly taking direct steps to express continued interest in the midfielder, as per Sport.
Cerezo personally contacted Barcelona president Joan Laporta several weeks ago to reaffirm Atlético’s admiration for the player, following earlier discussions in mid-April.
Barcelona were already aware of Atletico’s long-standing interest, but the renewed contact confirmed that the Madrid club are still closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to act if the opportunity arises.
Following that approach, Laporta is said to have passed responsibility for the matter to sporting director Deco, who has already held informal conversations regarding Casado’s situation and is expected to continue assessing his future in the coming weeks.
For Barcelona, the decision is not straightforward.
While Casado represents a technically developed La Masia midfielder with strong tactical understanding, competition in midfield and the need to manage finances mean no option is being ruled out at this stage.
With the summer window approaching, Casado’s situation is likely to remain open-ended, especially as Barcelona evaluate both sporting balance and squad sustainability ahead of a crucial period of restructuring.
