Barcelona’s pursuit of one of South America’s brightest young talents is quickly turning into a transfer war, with Europe’s elite circling.
Barcelona have stepped up their interest in Eduardo Conceicao, the 16-year-old sensation from Palmeiras, but they are far from alone in the race.
The teenage forward has attracted attention from across the continent, with multiple clubs now actively pushing to secure his signature ahead of the summer window.
Barcelona’s sporting director Deco is understood to have already made contact with Palmeiras to signal the club’s interest, reigniting their pursuit after briefly cooling their stance.
However, the biggest threat right now appears to be coming from Manchester City.
According to ESPN Brasil, the Premier League champions are leading the race and are moving aggressively to wrap up a deal early, with a proposed offer in the region of €40 million (around £34 million) already being prepared.
Their strategy is clear, act quickly and shut the door on rival clubs before the bidding escalates further.
And there is no shortage of competition.
Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain remain heavily involved, maintaining regular contact with those close to the player.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are also keeping a close eye on developments and are considering matching that €40 million valuation, while Liverpool have also entered the picture.
From a Barcelona perspective, this is a familiar challenge.
The club continues to rely on identifying elite young talent early, but financial constraints often make it difficult to compete with Premier League sides willing to move faster and spend more aggressively.
That said, Barcelona still hold appeal in terms of development and pathway, particularly for young South American players looking to follow in the footsteps of past stars.
For now, though, the race is wide open.
And unless Barcelona can act decisively, this could be another case of a top prospect slipping through their grasp, with England once again proving to be the most powerful pull.
