Barcelona draws up a shortlist of 3 elite defenders as they plan a significant defensive upgrade under Hansi Flick.

The club’s recruitment team is casting a wide net and has already identified several profiles who fit Hansi Flick’s tactical demands, prioritising left‑footed defenders who can operate comfortably in a high line and support the team’s aggressive build‑up play.

With the current centre‑back options showing limitations over the course of the campaign, Barcelona are preparing multiple fallback routes to ensure they can still sign a reliable and high‑quality defender even if their primary target proves unattainable.

Among the three defenders under close observation are Micky van de Ven of Tottenham Hotspur, Nico Schlotterbeck of Borussia Dortmund, and Luka Vušković, the young Croatian centre‑back currently on loan at Hamburg, as reported by Marca.

Van de Ven is viewed as a physically dominant option whose contract situation could open the door for a summer move, while Schlotterbeck is valued for his technical quality and left‑footed presence in central defence.

Vušković represents the long‑term project, offering youth, pace, and raw potential at a still relatively affordable market price.

Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni remains Barcelona’s top priority in the centre‑back search and the one target the club would prefer to secure.

Initial talks with his representatives have reportedly gone well, but the financial terms with Inter and the sheer size of the fee involved mean alternatives must be ready.

By mapping out clear paths to all three defenders, Barcelona aims to ensure they can quickly pivot and sign a quality central defender even if their preferred choice slips out of reach this summer.
