European football politics have rarely stood still in recent years, and the shifting alliances between clubs and governing bodies continue to shape the modern game.

Behind the scenes, relationships that once appeared broken have slowly been repaired as clubs reassess what serves them best in an increasingly complex football landscape.

For Barcelona, the fallout from the Super League saga has lingered long after the project collapsed, with the club working to rebuild trust at the highest levels of European football.

That process has now taken a significant step forward following official confirmation from FC Barcelona.

In a statement released by the club, via their website, Barcelona confirmed they have been granted readmission to the European Football Clubs (EFC), marking a formal return to the organisation they previously left due to the Super League project.

“FC Barcelona reports that it has received official communication from the European Football Clubs (EFC) confirming its readmission as an Ordinary Member of the organisation,” the statement read.

“Following the club’s decision to end its relationship with the European Super League Company and to formally submit its application for readmission, the EFC Board of Directors has unanimously approved the reinstatement of FC Barcelona, in accordance with its Statutes.”

The move follows Barcelona’s public confirmation last week that they had completely walked away from the Super League, while also restoring ties with UEFA and the EFC.

That decision played a wider role in European football, as it reportedly encouraged Real Madrid to reach a truce with the same institutions, effectively signalling the end of the breakaway project.

Barcelona’s return was also closely linked to the personal involvement of the EFC president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who is also president of Paris Saint-Germain.

“The communication received highlights that the EFC President, Mr. Nasser Al-Khelaifi, personally submitted the Club’s application for membership to the Council at the meeting held today, and emphasised the decisive role played by Mr. Joan Laporta in the recent events that made this agreement possible.”

The statement also paid tribute to Joan Laporta, who stepped down earlier this week ahead of upcoming elections, but was credited with driving the reconciliation process.

“In this regard, the Club also wishes to acknowledge Mr. Joan Laporta’s clear willingness and proactive commitment to restoring relations with the EFC, which were crucial in securing the Club’s return as an Ordinary Member.”

Barcelona concluded by underlining their intention to move forward alongside Europe’s elite rather than against them.

“FC Barcelona welcomes this decision and reaffirms its commitment to working together with the rest of the European clubs for the benefit of football, its competitions and its fans.”
