Barcelona’s sporting director Deco, has made a major claim regarding the club’s approach to the upcoming January transfer window.
Speaking during Barcelona’s open-door training session at the Spotify Camp Nou, Deco sent a strong signal that the club is unlikely to make any urgent signings in the winter period unless unforeseen circumstances arise.
His comments come amid rising speculation fueled by an injury crisis and inconsistent performances that have left some fans and analysts calling for reinforcements.
Deco, who is also a key figure in Barcelona’s transfer strategy, made it clear that the focus remains on recovering injured players rather than seeking new additions in January.
“If we are doing well and there are no surprises, I don’t think it’s necessary,” he said, emphasizing the club’s confidence in its current squad and the progress under coach Hansi Flick.
Deco also highlighted that Barcelona already know where the team can improve and that they faced similar difficult moments last season but managed to overcome them without mid-season transfers, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
Backing Flick’s tactical vision, Deco dismissed doubts surrounding the coach’s philosophy and approach, underlining the club’s unity behind him.
He pointed out that second seasons are always challenging and praised the boldness of Flick’s plans, adding that criticism at this stage is unproductive.
“The only thing that cannot be disputed is the idea of a coach who won what he won, who brought us joy,” Deco remarked, calling for patience and support from the fans and media.
Despite struggles like the recent Champions League draw against Club Brugge and the five-point gap to league leaders Real Madrid, Deco projected calm and confidence about the season’s trajectory.
The club’s priority remains restoring full fitness to key players, as their best performances came when the squad was near full strength.
This approach confirms that Barcelona’s sporting leadership is placing trust in internal solutions and existing resources to navigate the mid-season challenges while keeping the door ajar only for unavoidable surprises.
