PSG is gearing up for a shock January transfer assault on Barcelona, targeting a key star to plug critical gaps in their squad.

With a demanding schedule in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, ongoing injury issues have prompted PSG to seek a reliable, versatile defender who can seamlessly fit into their tactical system.

The club is eyeing a young Spanish centre-back from Barcelona, whose contract situation and recent rise in form have made him an attractive target.

PSG’s manager, Luis Enrique, familiar with the player from their time together with the Spanish national team, sees him as the perfect fit for PSG’s possession-based and tactically flexible style of play.

The defender drawing PSG’s strong interest is Eric Garcia, as reported by AS.

At 24 years old, Garcia has become a regular starter under Barcelona coach Hansi Flick, establishing a solid partnership with young Pau Cubarsi in central defense.

Known for his composure, positional sense, and ability to build play from the back, Garcia offers the versatility to play centrally, at right-back, or even as a defensive midfielder if needed.

His contract with Barcelona extends until 2026, but renewal talks have reportedly stalled, leading PSG to consider approaching the January transfer window.

This potential move gains urgency following the injury to PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, sidelined for at least six weeks, leaving a gap in the defensive line.

Barcelona, however, remains firm in its desire to retain Garcia, especially given his impressive resurgence this season.

The club is optimistic about securing a new contract for him, viewing him as a cornerstone for their defensive future.

Despite PSG’s interest, the Catalan club is unlikely to entertain offers, particularly from a Champions League rival.

The coming months will be critical for Garcia’s future as Barcelona aims to keep their rising star, while PSG prepares to potentially strengthen their squad with one of Europe’s most promising young defenders.
