FC Barcelona faces a logistical challenge as they prepare to host Real Sociedad in La Liga, with their home venue still under wraps due to ongoing stadium arrangements.
With the iconic stadium still under construction, the club has navigated a challenging start, playing its initial home games at alternative venues.
La Liga permitted Barcelona to schedule their first three matches away, anticipating a return to Camp Nou after the first international break.
However, with the second break nearing and no confirmed reopening date, the club faces logistical hurdles for its upcoming home fixture against Real Sociedad on September 28.
According to Diario Sport, Barcelona is likely to host Real Sociedad at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, the home of Barça Atlètic and the women’s team.
This follows the club’s use of the venue for their two home matches this season, as delays in Camp Nou’s renovation persist.
The club must notify La Liga of the chosen stadium by Tuesday, coinciding with a meeting with the City Council to address the situation.
While Estadi Lluís Companys in Montjuïc was considered, it has been ruled out due to logistical and security concerns stemming from the La Mercè piromusical event.
The Estadi Johan Cruyff is being prepared with urgency, with ongoing work to lay the pitch, install dugouts, goals, turnstiles, and seats, and reinstate the VAR system.
Meanwhile, Camp Nou’s reopening remains stalled by incomplete documentation for the Final Works Certificate, making it unavailable for Sunday’s clash.
This match may mark the final time Barcelona relies on Estadi Johan Cruyff this season, as the club anticipates returning to Camp Nou for their next home game against Girona on October 18, following their Champions League fixture against PSG.
For now, Barcelona’s focus is on securing three points against Real Sociedad in a temporary home, maintaining their strong La Liga form amidst off-field challenges.
