A lingering foot injury threatens to sideline one of the brightest Barcelona talents for their La Liga showdown against Getafe.

The 17-year-old, who shone brightly during the team’s pre-season, has been sidelined by persistent foot discomfort, casting doubt on his availability for both the first team and reserve squad.

With a demanding schedule ahead, including a midweek fixture against Oviedo, Hansi Flick faces yet another challenge in managing his squad amidst a growing list of absences.

The player’s versatility in the final third makes his potential absence a significant blow, especially at a time when opportunities have opened up due to injuries to other key players.

The affected player is Pedro Fernandez, known as ‘Dro,’ who has been grappling with a foot injury sustained during a reserve team match against Porreres on September 7, as reported by Diario Sport.

A stamp on his foot during the game has caused ongoing pain, preventing him from training normally or featuring in recent matchday squads for either Barcelona’s first team or their reserves.

Dro’s absence was felt in games against Valencia and Newcastle for the senior side, as well as a reserve team trip to Andratx.

The discomfort persists, making it highly unlikely he will be fit for the Getafe match or the reserve team’s clash against Castellon B.

Dro’s injury is particularly untimely, as he could have seized opportunities created by the absences of players like Gavi and Lamine Yamal.

Having been included in Barcelona’s first-team squads for their opening three La Liga matches against Mallorca, Levante, and Rayo Vallecano, Dro has caught the eye of coach Hansi Flick.

While he has yet to make his competitive debut, Flick remains closely involved in monitoring his recovery, eager to reintegrate the versatile youngster once he regains full fitness.

For now, Barcelona must navigate their upcoming fixtures without Dro’s dynamic presence, hoping for a swift recovery to bolster their attacking options.
