A key Barcelona youngster has been hit by a major injury, facing a one-month layoff after picking up an issue.

The player, who has been balancing involvement with the first team and the reserve squad, suffered a setback during a recent match, with recovery expected to take approximately one month.

This development poses a challenge for both the player and the club, as they aim to maintain momentum under coach Hansi Flick’s guidance.

The injured star is Guille Fernandez, a 17-year-old midfielder from La Masia, as reported by Diario Sport.

Fernandez, who wears the No. 10 shirt for Barça Atletic, sustained an ankle injury during a match against Andratx on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

Starting in midfield, he was substituted at half-time due to the issue, which has now been confirmed to keep him out for around four weeks.

Fernandez is among a select group of young talents, including Jofre Torrents, Pedro Fernandez, and Toni Fernandez, who have been training with Flick’s first team since pre-season but primarily play for the reserves to gain match experience.

Despite his commitment to Barcelona, where he rejected attractive offers to stay and pursue a first-team breakthrough, Fernandez’s injury is a blow to his aspirations.

Unlike Toni Fernandez, whose half-time substitution against Andratx was pre-planned to ensure availability for the first team’s Valencia match, Guille’s exit was injury-enforced.

His absence is particularly felt by Barça Atletic, where he is a vital figure, and the focus now shifts to ensuring a full recovery to avoid long-term complications.

Barcelona’s coaching staff, led by Flick and reserve-team coach Juliano Belletti, will need to adjust plans without Fernandez’s creativity in midfield.

The club remains optimistic about his return, prioritizing a careful rehabilitation process.

As Barcelona continues its La Liga and Champions League campaigns, Fernandez’s setback serves as a reminder of the challenges young players face in their quest to shine at one of football’s biggest clubs.
