Sevilla has made a stunning move on transfer deadline day, bringing a former Barcelona star back to La Liga.

The move, finalized on the deadline day of September 1, 2025, comes as the Andalusian club seeks to fill the void left by the departure of winger Dodi Lukebakio to Benfica for €30 million.

This acquisition signals Sevilla’s intent to remain competitive under new coach Matias Almeyda, leveraging the experience of a player with a storied history in Spanish football.

The player in question is none other than Alexis Sanchez, the former Barcelona star who has rejoined La Liga after an 11-year absence, in an official Sevilla statement.

Sanchez, now 36, signed a one-year deal with Sevilla on a free transfer following his exit from Udinese, where he spent the last season.

His time at Barcelona from 2011 to 2014 was marked by significant success, including winning the La Liga title in 2012-13 and the Copa del Rey.

During his three-year stint, Sanchez scored 47 goals in 141 appearances, with memorable moments like his equalizer in a 3-1 El Clásico victory over Real Madrid in 2011 and a hat-trick against Elche in 2014.

His versatility and flair made him a fan favorite at the Camp Nou, and his €37.5 million transfer to Barcelona in 2011 set a record as the most expensive for a Chilean player.

Since leaving Barcelona, Sanchez’s career has taken him to Arsenal, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Marseille, and back to Udinese, but his return to La Liga brings a nostalgic edge for Blaugrana supporters.

Sevilla, looking to capitalize on his experience, sees him as a key addition, especially after losing Lukebakio and with Chidera Ejuke sidelined by injury.

The Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan faithful will hope Sanchez can replicate his Barcelona form, where he thrived under pressure in high-stakes matches like the Champions League, scoring twice against Bayer Leverkusen in 2012.

As Sevilla aim to climb the La Liga table, Sanchez’s proven pedigree could be a game-changer.
