Barcelona’s squad management has been under intense scrutiny this summer, with Hansi Flick balancing a mix of experienced stars and promising youth talent.

The La Masia graduates continue to make headlines, as the Catalan club remain committed to integrating young players into the first team.

Fans have been watching closely to see which academy prospects will finally cement their place in the squad after impressing in pre-season and early league fixtures.

Injuries, however, have been a persistent challenge for the club, with some young talents having their progression interrupted just as opportunities were opening up.

The return of key players from long-term layoffs is always a point of interest, especially when it affects the options Flick has for his midfield and starting XI.

One of the club’s most exciting young midfielders, Marc Bernal, is now nearing a comeback after a devastating injury that halted his rise exactly a year ago.

On 27 August 2024, Marc Bernal suffered a torn ACL and damage to the external meniscus in his left knee following a collision with Isi Palazon in the dying moments against Rayo Vallecano.

Now, Bernal has offered a tantalising glimpse of his imminent return via his Instagram story, recalling the emotions he felt after the injury and adding the emojis: an hourglass and an arrow alongside the word “BACK”.

The post sent a clear message to fans: he is counting the days until he returns to first-team action.

Reports suggest that the midfielder is close to receiving the medical green light and is expected to rejoin the squad following the September international break.

This would allow Flick to include him for Barcelona’s fourth La Liga fixture of the season against Valencia, scheduled for the weekend of 13-14 September.

The German coach is expected to ease Bernal back gradually, following a similar approach to Gavi’s return from an ACL injury last season.

For Barcelona, Bernal’s return is more than just a boost to their midfield options—it’s a symbol of resilience and the continued faith the club places in its academy prospects.
