Barcelona’s new season has already brought plenty of drama off the pitch, with fans eager to see their team continue on their winning run in La Liga, after their first two wins against Mallorca and Levante.
The start of the campaign has been unusual, as supporters have had to watch their team in kits other than their home kit.
Kit launches are always a big deal for Barca, both commercially and culturally, with the new designs often reflecting the club’s identity and heritage in a modern style.
After pre-season friendlies showcased the fresh designs, fans had expected to see their stars in the new Barcelona home kit immediately, only to face a frustrating delay due to La Liga regulations.
The league’s Kit Selector system ensures that colour clashes are avoided in all fixtures, which can lead to unexpected issues even for a club with Barcelona’s prominence.
Now, SPORT confirms that Barcelona have finally received approval to wear their new 2025/26 home shirt when they face Rayo Vallecano next Sunday.
In the first two matchdays, Barca were forced to play in last season’s green away kit.
At Son Moix against Mallorca and later at the Ciutat de Valencia against Levante, La Liga’s Kit Selector rejected all three of Barcelona’s new designs due to colour clashes, including the orange third kit.
As a result, the team had no choice but to use a uniform from the previous campaign, frustrating fans who had been eager to see the modern look in official games.
It’s important to note that the club itself does not decide which shirt is used; the final approval lies with the match director, who validates the uniform combinations uploaded to the Kit Selector system.
Against both Mallorca and Levante, none of Barcelona’s three new kits passed the filter due to chromatic similarities with the opponents’ shirts.
That chapter is now closed, as Rayo Vallecano’s white shirt with a red stripe poses no conflict with Barcelona’s traditional colours.
For the first time this season, the Blaugrana will wear their 2025/26 Barcelona home kit, which features a modern blurred design that gives it a fresh and dynamic look.
With the kit issue finally resolved, Nike and the fans can look forward to the long-awaited debut, marking the true start of Barcelona’s new season in style.
