As the new La Liga season rapidly approaches, Barcelona are finalising preparations to defend their title under Hansi Flick.
The club’s summer transfer window has been a rollercoaster, marked by key arrivals and departures, all while grappling with strict financial fair play rules that continue to shape their activity.
Ensuring that new signings are registered on time remains a priority, alongside contract renewals for vital squad members.
With the campaign just days away, the Blaugrana are keen to present a fully equipped squad ready to challenge on all fronts.
Recent reports suggested that Barcelona had set their sights on Argentine centre-back Geronimo Spina, a rising talent currently with Atletico Madrid’s reserve team.
This potential swoop from a fierce La Liga rival raised eyebrows, hinting at a surprise move that could strengthen Barcelona’s defensive options.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have no plans to sign Geronimo Spina this summer — at least not for now.
The 20-year-old defender joined Atletico Madrid in 2023 after impressing at Estudiantes de La Plata.
Under the guidance of Fernando Torres with the reserves, Spina has developed rapidly, earning call-ups from Diego Simeone to the senior squad, including appearances in Champions League matchday squads and La Liga rosters.
While Barca’s scouting team has followed Spina closely, the club’s financial fair play restrictions mean that adding another defender is not currently a priority.
The departure of Inigo Martinez did spark speculation about bolstering the backline, but unless a major exit happens at the last minute, Barcelona are expected to keep their summer business closed.
Instead, the Catalan giants are focused on securing the registration of recent signings and contract renewals to ensure Hansi Flick starts the season with his preferred squad intact.
For now, Geronimo Spina remains a watched talent — but not yet a Blaugrana player.
