Barcelona president Joan Laporta shares insights on the club’s player registration hurdles, squad updates.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta radiated optimism following the team’s commanding 5-0 triumph over Como in the Joan Gamper Trophy, a match that celebrated the club’s heritage and showcased the exciting direction under coach Hansi Flick, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
Speaking at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, Laporta reflected on the emotional weight of the occasion, honoring the club’s founder while praising the squad’s vibrant performance.
The event, steeped in tradition, brought together the Gamper family and paid tribute to Johan Cruyff’s enduring legacy, with Flick’s influence continuing to inspire fans.
On the pressing issue of player registrations, Laporta provided clarity on captain Marc-André ter Stegen’s situation, revealing that the goalkeeper had signed a permit allowing the club to submit his lumbar injury report to La Liga’s medical committee.
This decision, Laporta emphasized, paves the way for Joan Garcia’s potential registration, pending approval from La Liga.
“Marc is our captain, and his leadership was evident in his speech,” Laporta said, commending Ter Stegen’s 11-year tenure and character.
He remained cautiously optimistic about registering other players before the upcoming Mallorca match, noting, “We’re working hard. If not for the first matchday, we have time.”
Laporta also addressed Inigo Martinez’s departure to Al-Nassr, explaining it as a strategic move. “With five centre-backs, one had to leave,” he said, noting that Martinez’s decision was family-driven at 34, especially since he joined without a transfer fee.
On Barcelona’s four Ballon d’Or nominees, Laporta singled out Lamine Yamal, saying, “He trains like he plays, and with Hristo Stoichkov’s support, I’m thrilled.”
Looking ahead, Laporta reassured fans about the return to Camp Nou, emphasizing ongoing collaboration with the City Council.
“We’re doing everything to return soon, and it will only get better,” he promised, fueling excitement for Barcelona’s next chapter under Flick’s dynamic leadership.
