Barcelona is reportedly eyeing a move for Chelsea star as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.

Barcelona’s quest for a dynamic left-winger has taken a fresh turn after their pursuit of key targets hit roadblocks.

Having missed out on Nico Williams, who signed a long-term deal with Athletic Club, and finding Liverpool’s Luis Diaz financially out of reach, the Blaugrana have shifted focus to a new attacking option.

With Marcus Rashford as their primary target, the club is now exploring a versatile Premier League star as a strong alternative to bolster their offensive unit under Hansi Flick’s management.

According to transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku has emerged as a prime candidate for Barcelona.

The 27-year-old Frenchman, formerly of RB Leipzig, has played over 60 competitive matches for Chelsea in the past two years, scoring 18 goals and providing five assists.

While his Premier League numbers may not dazzle, Nkunku’s undeniable talent and adaptability make him an appealing fit for Flick’s system.

Capable of playing across the front line or as a false nine, he offers the tactical flexibility Barcelona craves, especially as Robert Lewandowski ages.

Nkunku’s potential move comes as Barcelona weighs its options carefully.

Rashford, valued at around €40 million, remains the priority, with Manchester United open to a loan or permanent transfer.

However, financial constraints and competition from clubs like Bayern Munich and Fenerbahce complicate the deal.

Nkunku, while not the top target, presents a compelling case with his ability to operate in multiple attacking roles.

His experience in high-stakes matches, including the FIFA Club World Cup, adds to his appeal for a Barcelona side aiming to maintain its La Liga dominance.

The Catalan giants face a crucial decision. While Rashford’s explosive pace and marketability are enticing, Nkunku’s versatility could provide long-term stability.

Barcelona’s sporting director Deco and president Joan Laporta are reportedly in discussions, with a resolution expected soon.

As the transfer window nears its close, the club’s next move will shape their attacking identity for the 2025/26 season.
