A promising young Barcelona star is reportedly seeking an exit from the Catalan club as the summer transfer window intensifies.
The players will return to the training ground this Sunday, and the club is pursuing a young defender who has received a healthy amount of potential but also has seen a lack of opportunity to build into a player for FC Barcelona’s first team.
This situation is part of a follow-through of other players, with the potential departure of the young defender all being a part of the club’s strategy to take advantage of opening up some salaries and most importantly to gain space for new arrivals, which is a priority for Barcelona in the shop-downs of their budget and strengthen return to Europe’s upper echelon in football, as reported by Diario Sport.
The potential departure has triggered debates with fans about what the club is doing to develop young players as a result.
The player is Mamadou Mbacké, a Senegalese center-back who turned 22 years old and joined FC Barcelona from Los Angeles FC in 2024.
After doing well at Barça Atlètic, he has not been able to get a chance with the first team of Hansi Flick and has only performed with the first team in a handful of appearances.
FC Barcelona is open to both providing his services on loan or permanently with other European clubs already conveying interest in him.
Mbacké’s contract lasts until June 2026, with an option to extend, which is a critical moment either for his career or open space for planning the club’s budget.
This is consistent with the recent actions of Barcelona, including the new signing of Lovro Chelfi, and loan considerations from Barcelona on other players.
The departure of Mbacké may allow freedom and participation in first-team opportunities might allow some other significant signings.
