Inter Milan has set its sights on Barcelona’s captain, sparking transfer talks that could reshape the Catalan club’s future.
It seems that the Italian giants are looking to strengthen their roster and will likely make a formal bid in the coming days, as they expect to make a managerial change in the goalkeeping department.
This is since FC Barcelona, having offloaded their captain next season, is parting with Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who could find himself number two at the club after the recent signing of Joan Garcia.
The Catalans are even willing to allow any player who feels stuck with the club to leave with a letter of freedom to not only allow them to leave as they like but to stop the financial problems from their contract, which is buried on three years left over the value of the contract.
The captain to be offloaded by Barcelona is Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the German number one goalkeeper, who has been one of the few consistent players for Barcelona, as reported by Diario Sport.
Despite his wishes to remain at the club, ter Stegen has been unhappy with the direction of the club’s decisions and particularly aggrieved by the club leaks that have tried to besmirch his image.
Inter Milan’s interest in ter Stegen could be a potential image-saving lifeline, as they want to identify and secure ter Stegen as their first-choice target for replacing Yann Sommer, who looks set for a transfer to Galatasaray next season.
Other clubs, including AS Monaco and Galatasaray, have also expressed interest in ter Stegen, but for Inter Milan’s Champions League status, their project looks especially appealing.
Financial limitations faced by Barcelona, combined with the emergence of younger players, have resulted in uncertainty surrounding ter Stegen’s future.
Inter Milan plans to have a meeting with the goalkeeper next week to discuss a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
Ter Stegen is a great goalkeeper, and given the links with Inter, it would be a new chapter, and the transfer window should be interesting for both him and the club.
