Barcelona’s pursuit of Nico Williams is encountering significant obstacles, threatening the highly anticipated transfer.

The Catalan giants continue to be linked with Nico Williams, whose flashiness and pace make him an obvious candidate to sign.

The 22-year-old Spaniard has a release clause of €62 million, with Bayern Munich being another club interested in securing his services, but Williams has made it clear he wants to join Barcelona, providing ample reason for fans to feel confident.

Club Sporting Director Deco has had extensive talks with Williams’ agent, Felix Tainta, regarding the personal terms, which means Barcelona are looking to secure the Euro 2024 winner’s signature before Athletic begin pre-season training on July 9.

Nevertheless, even with the relationship formed with both Williams and his agent, there have been some somewhat complicated developments.

Notably, according to Marca, Barcelona is facing some major problems with registering Williams with La Liga because of Financial Fair Play constraints.

While it appeared clubs were progressing through financial regulations, now it appears Barcelona is no longer reaching those thresholds, as they could not provide Williams or his agent the registration guarantees needed.

This has created a difficult situation, with the player’s agent asking for a clause that would allow Williams to leave for a free transfer if the registration does not happen, which the Catalan team does not want to accept.

The dilemma is further complicated because the Catalan team has previously had issues with players like Dani Olmo registering, and there are doubts about whether the transfer can get finalized.

As time is running out, this increases the pressure for Barcelona to institutionalize and settle this situation quickly.

Athletic Club, Jon Uriarte, does not want to lose their star player and knows exactly what he needs to do.

The deadline is approaching, and Barcelona has to find the balance between financial reasons for registering players and their will to sign Williams before other teams take him.

These next few days will ultimately determine if this high-profile transfer goes through or not.
