Barcelona’s preparations for the 2025/26 season are beginning to ramp up, with Hansi Flick’s squad set to return to training on 13 July.

The Blaugrana will look to build on a domestic treble, defend their titles, and mount a serious Champions League campaign after falling short last season.

Excitement also surrounds their long-awaited return to the newly renovated Spotify Camp Nou, expected to provide a boost both on and off the pitch.

Flick is set to assess a mix of senior players and La Masia prospects during pre-season, with eight youth talents already named for training camp involvement.

But while some youngsters are getting their big break, a senior figure is facing a harsh reality.

According to Sport, Marc-Andre ter Stegen is set for a crunch meeting with Hansi Flick in the coming weeks, where the German coach will inform him that he is no longer part of his long-term plans.

Barcelona have already completed the signing of Joan Garcia from Espanyol, and sources inside the club suggest the 23-year-old will take over as the new number one next season.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has been with Barça since 2014 and has long been a pillar of the squad, now finds himself surplus to requirements — a development that mirrors what happened with Ilkay Gundogan last year.

At the time, Flick held direct talks with Gundogan, making it clear he would not be central to his tactical plans, which ultimately led to the midfielder returning to Manchester City after mutually terminating his contract.

A similar path now appears to be unfolding for Ter Stegen, who still has multiple years remaining on his current deal.

The meeting between Flick and the 32-year-old goalkeeper is expected to be direct, with the former Bayern Munich manager set to express his desire to prioritise youth and fresh competition between the sticks.

For Ter Stegen, this could mark the end of a glittering Barcelona chapter, as the club looks ahead to a new era under Flick, both in goal and beyond.
