Bayern Munich has renewed its chase of a major transfer target, being chased forever by FC Barcelona, behind a huge salary offer to the player.
Bayern Munich has reportedly gone all-in to attempt to sign a very sought-after player in what is a late stage of the window, upping the competition with FC Barcelona, who lack the financial means to compete.
Bayern Munich is trying to improve its attacking options during the summer transfer window, and it is for the 2025-26 season.
This player is Nico Williams of Athletic Club. The 22-year-old winger has been most exciting in La Liga, attracting scouts from top clubs in Europe.
Bayern Munich’s latest offer reportedly sees Williams on a net salary of €10 million per season, which is almost double Barcelona’s proposal, which excludes bonuses, as per Loic Tanzi.
Williams has stated that he attempted to join Barcelona, but he has already agreed to a contract of 6 years.
Still, Williams and Barcelona face a financial disadvantage in comparison to Bayern, who will activate Williams’ release clause of €62 million (a financial amount Barcelona is unable to activate because they need to move players to create funds).
Barcelona still believes they have a chance as they are relying on Williams’ affinity for playing at Camp Nou with some players from Spain’s team, like Lamine Yamal.
Still, Bayern’s persistence, coupled with their ability to provide instant money and higher wages, may play into the young star’s plans.
As the parties continue to discuss the decisions in the meantime, the next few days will prove critical in deciding whether or not Barcelona will be able to fend off Bayern in their quest for one of their targets.
Barcelona’s potential acquisition of Williams is emblematic of the never-ending feud between two of Europe’s elite clubs, with Williams’ decision having significant implications for the long-term and short-term plans of both clubs.
