Barcelona is ramping up its interest in Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford as we move toward the summer window.
The 27-year-old England player is certainly among the targets for Hansi Flick’s team, who are looking to increase their attacking options in the build-up to the 2025/26 season after a six-month loan with Aston Villa that ended last month.
Rashford’s time at Villa ended by injury while Villa were stalling on activating their £40m option to buy. Barcelona is taking advantage of the situation to revive its interest in the player.
It has been reported by Mundo Deportivo that Rashford is open to a move to Catalonia, and he is also willing to take a near 50 per cent reduction on his earnings of £ 315,000 per week to make the transfer happen.
It is reported that Manchester United are willing to put some wages into assisting with Rashford’s exit, seeing as he has a contract until 2028.
Barcelona is limited in what they are able to do in the transfer market, since they will need to sell players to adhere to the 1:1 transfer rule, so this makes Rashford a Plan B option to Liverpool’s Luis Diaz.
Diaz, who has a contract at Anfield until 2027, is Barcelona’s number 1 target, and Liverpool would ask for roughly £70m.
Diaz can rotate with Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, so he fits well.
However, Liverpool and Diaz are currently negotiating a new contract, which could complicate matters.
If Diaz were to stay, then Marcus Rashford is certainly a viable option, as are Gabriel Martinelli from Arsenal and Kingsley Coman from Bayern Munich.
Flick’s remodelling of the Barcelona squad is ongoing, and Rashford’s speed, versatility, and Premier League experience, if he does move to Barca, would be a great asset.
Villa’s interest in Rashford seems to be decreasing, leaving an opportunity for Barcelona to enter the market when their financial situation allows them to get their main targets.
