Hansi Flick is set to elevate another La Masia talent, giving a 16-year-old star a chance to impress with Barcelona’s first team during pre-season.
The young attacker had been in a first-team camp the last year’s US tour.
Impressive enough to make Flick impressed and remain with the first team before returning to Barça Atletic.
Now, with the new season approaching, Hansi Flick is yet again wanting to give the talented young player another chance to impress, which shows that Barcelona is prioritising the development of its home-grown talent instead of the transfer policy.
The young player is Toni Fernandez, a 16-year-old flexible attacker, as reported by Diario Sport.
Moreover, Toni Fernandez has been on Flick radar ever since the player’s young talent was showcased during Flick’s last summer FC Barcelona session.
Fernandez, who made his debut in January for the senior team in a Copa del Rey match against UD Barbastro, has been told to report for medical testing on July 13th with the first team.
Recently, Hansi Flick had a meeting with the academy players, including Toni Fernandez, but also Pedro Fernandez, Juan Hernandez, and Jofre Torrents, and explained how they will be included in the pre-season.
Fernandez’s previous understanding of Flick’s plans and methods and the way he has grown over the last year give him a good chance of being a first-team option.
Although Fernandez has mainly played as a wide player, when Unai Hernandez left in January, he played well as an attacking midfielder.
Flick is aware that Fernandez’s physical and personal development trajectory, alongside possible exits like Pau Victor and Pablo Torre, gives Fernandez opportunities.
Staring the season, Barcelona will be as competitive as ever, meaning that as Fernandez joins the team for pre-season, we are possibly seeing the rise of another youth player from La Masia, with Flick to realise another gem, and also the very ambitious goals the club has going into the year.
