In football, the prime years of a player’s career often depend on their position.
Outfield players usually peak in their mid-to-late 20s, while goalkeepers tend to mature later, often reaching their best in their early 30s.
This physical and tactical difference is one reason why exceptional young goalkeepers are such a rarity in the modern game.
Players like Joan Garcia, who are impressing at just 24 years old, remain exceptions to the norm, is another player Barca are keen to get in as per recent reports.
Another rising star breaking this mould is Lucas Chevalier of LOSC Lille.
At only 23, he has firmly established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, making 48 appearances across all competitions this season.
Now, according to Fichajes, FC Barcelona’s sporting director Deco has identified the Frenchman as a prime candidate to strengthen the Catalan club’s goalkeeping department.
Deco is said to be impressed by Chevalier’s maturity, bravery, and ability to shoulder responsibility at such a young age.
However, Barcelona are not alone in this pursuit—Real Madrid have also reportedly taken an interest in the young shot-stopper, setting the stage for a potential transfer battle between Spain’s two biggest clubs.
Barcelona’s goalkeeping situation currently lacks long-term clarity.

Wojciech Szczesny, who was signed mid-season to cover for the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen, performed admirably and is wanted permanently, though a contract has yet to be finalised.
Meanwhile, Ter Stegen has returned from injury but hasn’t recaptured his top form and questions remain over whether he should continue as first choice, particularly given his inconsistent displays despite being club captain.
Inaki Pena, the 26-year-old La Masia product, has seemingly fallen out of favour with new manager Hansi Flick, having gone from regular appearances to being sidelined.
Whether or not Barcelona move for Lucas Chevalier could depend on what happens with Szczesny and Pena, but with his blend of youth, calmness, and top-flight experience, Chevalier could be the long-term solution the club has been searching for.
