Frenkie de Jong has been an important part of FC Barcelona since arriving in 2019 and has developed into a fan favorite with his expectation and patience when on the ball.
Barcelona is turning a corner under new coach Hansi Flick, and even with injuries, de Jong will continue to be a core member of the team that achieved a domestic double in 2024-25.
Frenkie de Jong is nearing the end of his contract that runs through next season, and with links to him leaving FC Barcelona for clubs like Manchester United and PSG, FC Barcelona is looking to tie down their Dutch star to a long-term contract at Camp Nou.
“We are working on renewing Frenkie’s contract, and he is very excited about staying, and we are fully and practically committed to doing anything to ensure he stays,” stated Laporta.
It is said FC Barcelona has been negotiating with Frenkie de Jong for a long time, and wants to renew him past 2026, with improved terms to reflect their importance to him.
Laporta’s comments, which were stated on May 18, 2025, by Mirror UK, show FC Barcelona’s commitment to protecting their players’ interests while warding off their rivals.
Frenkie de Jong, 27, scored three goals and assisted five times in 22 starts in LaLiga this season while playing to the left of the midfield, joining Pedri and Gavi.
Playing with young stars like Lamine Yamal has allowed both the players and Barcelona to attack with flair, although the loss to Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-final still stings.
Barcelona is committed to keeping him, even with financial difficulties, because de Jong supports their goal of building a legacy full of youth.
As negotiations continue through the end of the year, de Jong’s commitment may lock a Barcelona midfield for the future, with a target of making an impact in the 2025-26 European season.
