Barcelona’s dreams of strengthening their defense are slowly fading away as Liverpool wasted no time in finding one of their intended targets.

The Catalan side has been struggling financially, which has put them at a disadvantage in the transfer market consistently.

They needed a long-term option for their position at right back, which has been problematic for a couple of seasons now, and now it looks like they are going to miss out on another club because of their delays.

They will now have to consider how to salvage their options as discussions on this player are starting to happen elsewhere.

The player in question is Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, a 24-year-old Dutch right back who has been on Barcelona’s radar since last season, and was also interested in leaving the Bundesliga.

Frimpong’s stimulating play and attacking style will suit La Liga, but Barcelona’s financial situation has brought their pursuits to a halt.

On the other hand, news about Liverpool moving ahead of Barcelona on Frimpong comes from Diario Sport and other German sources that reported Liverpool were in advanced talks with the player’s representatives.

Liverpool seemed to have moved quickly because Trent Alexander–Arnold is expected to leave the team for Real Madrid after the upcoming transfer window, and will then target Frimpong as their next starting right back.

Leverkusen has a release clause of £30 million, which Liverpool can afford the fee but Barcelona can not.

Now that Jules Koundé has been bundled into playing right back, Barcelona’s intentions in the pursuit further halt Frimpong’s candidacy and an important fan base.

Frimpong could have given Barcelona positive thoughts on a move into La Liga, but Barcelona has slowly but surely missed out.

Frimpong was by no means dragging the chain, but the irresponsible nature of the club means Liverpool has gained first dibs.

Barça are now forced to indulge in the mystery of football as to how this is achievable whilst also missing out on their prime transfer target.

They need to sort their events out in quick time and either explore the options available whilst they head in the right direction ,or risk losing another important talent.
