Barcelona plans for adding to their squad this summer have primarily been focused on their outfield options, while they have quietly explored targets between the posts and have been linked to several goalkeepers across Europe.

This has led to speculation on potential moves in the next couple of transfer windows, but the news suggests Barcelona’s approach is calculated and not rushed.

As reported by CuleMania, Barcelona has identified two main goalkeeper targets to strengthen their goalkeeping department.

The first target is a 30-year-old,  Alex Remiro merited La Liga performer who has consistency and presence in the penalty area.

The second is Joan Garcia, the well-lauded young talent who currently plays in Spain’s second division and is being watched by several other top clubs.

Despite interest, it is understood that Barcelona is not going to pursue either option aggressively this summer.

Now we understand the patience. Barcelona intends to remain with the same two veteran keepers, Marc-André ter Stegen and Wojciech Szczesny, for at least another season.

Discussions have already begun regarding an extension for Szczesny.

This path is “safer” while allowing their young keeper, Diego Kochen to develop and grow as the third-choice keeper.

This plan indicates that it is highly likely that back-up keeper Iñaki Peña will leave this summer, as he is frustrated with not receiving enough match time.

Barcelona will permit his exit this summer in order to reduce the size of their roster.

Considering the next few years, Barcelona will most likely explore the goalkeeper position again in 2026, potentially freeing up space for a new signing when Szczesny leaves.

For now, Barcelona will take comfort in the experience between the sticks and monitor the long-term targets.

Overall, the approach provides a short-term plan for stability and is a carefully-considered transfer policy, to give Barcelona the best chance in the upcoming season while consider their options longer-term.
