Barcelona has identified a 26-year-old full-back as a potential transfer over the summer transfer period.
The Catalans want to make sure they get a right-back this summer, something that has haunted them in recent seasons, particularly with Jules Kounde too often taking on the role, as reported by Fichajes.
The answer to that right-back void has become a more pressing concern for Barcelona.
The player has made a name for himself as one of the most technically and defensively equipped players after playing in one of the top leagues in Europe and fits well in Barcelona’s playing style.
The player has shown he can contribute in attack, as well as defence, making him just the player to hopefully fill the right flank void.
Other clubs are aware of the player, but Barcelona is ready to pursue an agreement with the player.
The player has now been identified as Dodo, Fiorentina’s Brazilian full-back, who has transformed into one of Serie A’s most dependable defenders in recent years.
Dodo has blistering pace, tactical awareness, and crossing ability that would elevate Barcelona’s backline.
Nonetheless, the transfer isn’t totally without hurdles.
Fiorentina has slapped a €25m price tag on the defender, and given Barcelona’s current financial problems, this amount could be difficult to pay.
Barcelona may need to sell players before they will be able to fund the move.
Plus, the club has competition, with Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, and Juventus also interested, but the Catalan Giants believe their project and the guarantee of playing consistency will win them the player.
Should the deal go as planned, this could be a big step for Barcelona in the broader process of re-building their squad and addressing a position of long-term weakness, and allowing some of their top players to thrive in their preferred position.
In the next weeks it will become clearer what options are available to the club in order to finalize the transfer.
